OCEAN INSTITUTE

Ocean Institute is a non-profit ocean education organization in Dana Point, CA founded in 1977. (It’s also where Stephen Hillenburg got the idea for SpongeBob Squarepants). They came to our non-profit, Forge54, to apply for our rebranding weekend where volunteers all over Southern California would come together for 54 hours and work to create whatever our chosen non-profit needed. Serving on the board that year, I personally interviewed 84 organizations and helped choose which non-profit best suited us. After working with OI for several months to narrow down not only what they needed but what assets they had the capacity to keep up with, we created a plan.

With a new logo, a manifesto video, a fact video featuring the students of the Institute, as well as new posters that were repurposed into rack cards, light pole banners, and more we were able to set OI up for success. I managed a team of 10-15 sleep-deprived copywriters to help uphold the voice and tone of the brand as well as edited all assets to ensure consistency across all copy points.

In short - I love the Ocean Institute (and SpongeBob).
